The team conducting research into sports achievement at the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque country has turned its attention to women football players. Starting with the players who participate on a regional level and going right up to the international level, they have been examining how nutrition can affect achievement and recovery. It should be pointed out that little research of this kind has been conducted on girls.
By contrast, research has been carried out on boys for a long time now to see how their achievement is affected not only by nutrition, but also by anthropometric and physiological parameters; in other words, the importance of body size and functioning on many characteristics of the footballer: speed, strength, ability to jump, etc. Among the results there is one which has surprised no one: having too much fat is bad for everything.
