Sex machine for testing condoms Print E-mail

Durex2.jpgDurex, a big manufacturer of condoms, has developed a machine that simulates the movements of intercourse so that the toughness of condoms can be tested. This machine has enabled researchers at Durex to see that the reason for breakage in 90% of the condoms that fail is this: the condom is stretched again and again in the same place and does not go back to its relaxed situation. Today, two machines are used to measure the toughness of condoms. One measures how much a part of a condom, cut like a ring, stretches when it is pulled from each side. The other blows the condom up until it bursts. Nevertheless, the condoms that pass these tests still fail from time to time. So the new machine has been designed to overcome this problem. And it not only makes it possible to know how the condoms break, but also provide valuable data on how to make safe ones.
