Robots will be able to see as we do Print E-mail

robot.jpgWe humans can see three-dimensionally, and this enables us to perceive depth. Perceiving depth facilitates everyday events: taking hold of things, driving, etc are made possible. If robots are going to imitate humans, they will have to be able to see in a similar way. To achieve this, a student at the Public University of Navarre has created a computer program that simulates three-dimensional vision. Information is collected through two sensors. The program analyses the relationships between common points in two images and calculates which is farther away and which is closer. Taking that as the starting point, it produces an image that is coloured according to the depth.
